Quincy Words & Music, scheduled for
Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Patti's Thunder Café starting at 7:00pm,
will feature the irreverent Tommy Miles, an accomplished musician
best known for his tongue-in-cheek song choices and delivery.
Tommy Miles has been playing and
writing music since he was a little kid, which at least mentally, was
not all that long ago. In recent years, he was a member of local
folk-rock band Jeez Louise, which later became Tarnation, and played
guitar in an electric Celtic project called the Thorndogs (which is
currently getting back together as an acoustic 3-piece), as well as
keyboards and saxophones with the DeVilles for several years.
Currently he’s involved with a few area groups including playing
guitar and singing in the alternative country band The Back 40,
playing drums with Mudbone, a blues and classic rock band, playing
drums in the Michael Barclay Blues Band, and playing guitar in a
weird rock band called Shinöla. He has organized and performed in
several successful benefit shows for Plumas Arts including tributes
to Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Crosby Stills & Nash, as well as
the Soul Jukebox show.
Tommy’s solo act is a mix of
sometimes serious, usually funny, almost always irreverent
alternative country and Americana music with other varieties thrown
in just to confuse the crowd, such as the occasional bagpipe tune.
It’s sure to be an evening of fun if unusual music!
When he’s not performing, Tommy
teaches music through his local business, Cornerstone Learning
Center, where he also teaches K-12 and adult academics and aviation
ground school, and provides educational consulting services. He’s
also the station manager at KQNY 91.9 FM, Plumas Community Radio,
where he hosts the Burnpile Barbecue show (Tuesdays, 5:30 – 6:30
PM, rebroadcast at 7 PM on Saturdays).
