Work At Capitol Arts Progresses

Volunteers have been quietly working away at the former Capitol Saloon at 525 Main Street (right across form the courthouse) in Quincy. This historic building will become the new home for Plumas Arts.

The floor has been repaired and wall resurfaced and the painting begins. A new hardwood floor is being acclimated and will be installed by a crew of seasoned builders at the end of March. The rehabitation project has been overseen in an all-volunteer effort by John Wooller and his "right hand man" Wes Mead

Dedicated donations, earned income and fundraising proceeds were saved over a period of 25 years in A Place of Our Own fund. In September when the building came up for foreclosure auction, Plumas Arts had just enough to make the winning bid. "It is as if it were meant to be," say Plumas Arts board members and staff. The building now becomes an equity asset of this forward thinking community cultural organization to benefit the arts and the local economy. Members can be proud to know that their investment in Plumas Arts over the years has been transformed into the ownership of this exciting new community cultural space.

Volunteers assembled on Saturday March 10th to put the first color coat on the ceiling at the new home of Plumas Arts in the Capitol Arts building at 525 Main Street.
Painters for the day include Inge & Rick Stock, Diane & Bob Mackle, Jesse Frid, Wes Mead and John Wooller.

Plumas Arts expects to be moving in during April and open for business by the Art Walk on the first Friday in May. Expansion of their gallery space, and retail offerings, are among many of the plans in store. The facility is also being designed to be flexible enough for small performances and other cultural presentations. A full-blown celebration for volunteers, donors, Plumas Arts members and the community will officially "open" of the new space sometime after mid-May.

Tax-deductible donations for the Capitol Arts Project are much needed, will be well-used and are very gratefully accepted by Plumas Arts: by mail to P.O. Box 600, Quincy, CA 95971, online at plumasarts.org call (530) 283-3402 for more information.
