Plumas Arts Gallery Opens New Exhibit |
After a brief hiatus in January, the Plumas Arts Gallery, located at 525 Main Street in Quincy, is back with a brand new art exhibit. Friday, February 20 from 5 to 7pm marks the date of the Plumas Arts Gallery's first Artists' Opening Reception of 2015, featuring the photography of Joanne Burgueno and the barn quilt paintings of Adrienne Johnson. "I'm very excited about this show," says gallery director Lori Davis, "because we get the chance to introduce the public to a couple of very talented women, and in the process help launch art careers."

| Joanne Burgueno has been taking pictures for 17 years. A full-time student and mother to two girls, Burgueno likes to have her camera available at all times. "I really just enjoy having my camera with me. I never know what will be offered before my lens," she explains. She recently opened her own photography business, specializing in family portraits. "I take everything from portraits, to landscape, animals, or whatever catches my eye," she says. The prints she plans to show in February highlight her wide range of subject matter, from sensitive intimate portraits to atmospheric landscape shots. Adrienne Johnson is a mother and artist in Meadow Valley. When she moved to Plumas County in 2012, she fell in love with barn quilts, those colorful square paintings inspired by quilt designs, mounted on barns, houses and outbuildings around Plumas County. "It's funny," says gallery director Davis, "but one of the things visitors ask most is "what are those bright patterned decorations on all the barns, and where can I get one?" Johnson was one of those people intrigued by the artistic possibilities, and after making five barn quilts for her Meadow Valley home and barn, she began offering barn quilts for sale. In addition to her painting, Johnson has been spinning yarn for years, and recently started spinning alpaca from Plumas County farmers. She lives in Meadow Valley with her husband, two small boys, dairy goats, and chickens. |

"This will be a fun show," comments Davis. "Adrienne's bright, flat barn quilts provide an interesting contrast to Joanne's nuanced photographs." The artists will be on hand to discuss their work during the opening reception, at which appetizers and beverages will be offered. "If you don't get a chance to come to the show opening, please stop by on Saturday, February 7, during the Groundhog Festival, held across the street," adds Davis.
Also on display at the gallery is artwork by Plumas Arts' remarkable group of artist members. The gallery hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11am to 5:30pm, and on Saturday from 11am to 3pm. The show will run through the month of February. |
