Plumas Arts Gallery to feature photography of Graham Shea |
The Plumas Arts Gallery, located at 525 Main Street in Quincy, is proud to present the amazing photographs of Graham Shea. Friday, April 3rd, from 5 to 7pm marks the date of the Artist's Opening Reception, where the artist will be on hand to discuss his work which reflects his broad travel experience as well as his eye for natural beauty and the human condition. "I'm floored by the sheer breadth of his portfolio!" says gallery manager Lori Davis. "The photographs range from blue-gray Icelandic lagoons and misty green landscapes to brightly colored tropical flowers and South American lakes." |
Graham Shea grew up in Quincy, CA and started shooting with some of the earliest digital cameras to hit the market. When he graduated from high school, his father and grandmother together gave him a 6-megapixel Canon D60, the second digital SLR Canon ever made. He used that camera for 12 years and in many different countries. |

Says Shea, "On a mission trip to Argentina in 2006, I encountered "Adulam," a Christian nonprofit of poor helping the poor in the slums or Buenos Aires suburbs." Shea learned that through extreme resourcefulness the people of Adulam provide shelter, employment, and community to the needy in their neighborhoods. |

While helping translate Adulam's website into English one day, he totaled up the cost of all the needs they had listed. The number matched, to the dollar, the amount he had made during a recent two-week photo job. It was not very much money, but he was amazed how far it would go in changing people's lives for the better. From that point on, he decided to dedicate the proceeds from his photography to Adulam. After tax, 100% of your purchase will go to them. |

Shea comments about his work, "I enjoy nature, portrait, and technical photography, as well as videography. Because I usually shoot photos for fun during travels, most of them come with a neat story. Many people have asked me to include the stories that go with my photos. I hope you enjoy both, and feel inspired to adventure out and discover the beauty and wonder this big world holds." |

Most of the photographs featured in this exhibition will be printed on canvas or metal, with a few traditional prints to round out the offerings. Says gallery manager Davis, "Printing on metal is a relatively new presentation for us. This method brings a vibrancy to the work that is best appreciated in person. The canvas prints also have a richness to them that's hard to describe." She goes on, "Of course, a traditional photographic print, matted and framed, is an elegant, classic addition to any gallery wall." |

| Also on display at the gallery is artwork by Plumas Arts' remarkable group of artist members. The gallery hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11am to 5pm.
