Robert is mainly known for his landscapes in oils. He began painting seriously in the early 1960's, encouraged and taught by his sister, Peggy Sanders, a well known landscape painter. He prefers to paint plein air, in the outdoor setting, but occasionally works from sketches drawn on location, photos and memory. The mountains and lakes of Plumas County are a constant attraction for Bob. Bob's inspiration comes from the natural scenery where he grew up exploring the hills of Sonoma County, California, as well as several years spent in Alaska and along the Columbia River while in the U.S. Coast Guard. His career as a State Park Ranger took him to some of the most scenic and historic areas of Northern California which greatly influenced his work.

More recently he has been painting in pastels as well, although oils are his favorite and predominate medium.

Carol Ann is primarily a self-taught artist. She has worked in pen and ink, creating brochures, T-shirt designs and a cancellation stamp for the U.S. Postal Service. Until recently she has been best known for her bright and expressive watercolors.

About five years ago, Carol discovered gourds after attending a gourd festival in Casa Grande, Arizona. She was hooked. "Gourding is a labor of love" Carol said. The outside of the gourd must first be soaked and scrubbed clean. A mask must be worn while cleaning the inside of the gourd. Then comes scraping, sanding and smoothing. A design is drawn on the outside, burned into the gourd, then painted with watercolors, colored pencils or acrylics. The inside must also be painted. The gourd is then finished with either shoe polish or spray varnish.

Carol's recent work is mostly functional art. Made from gourds, her basket and bowls feature imagery inspired by traditional Borneo and Native American designs as well as florals and geometric designs.
